This is just plain foolishness

Can I rant?

I can't believe what I read on ESPN's website. The Pistons and Kwame Brown have a verbal agreement that will have him on the payroll at 4 million per year. By the way, he will be there for two years. Isn't one loser named Kwame in Detroit enough!!!

Some how some way I hope this is a stroke of genius plan by Joe Dumars to package Kwame Brown and a few other household name Piston players for some kind of jaw dropping sign and trade deals with other teams that may be fooled by the Kwame Brown 6-11, 270 lbs. frame. If not, this deal is about as stupid as Isiah Thomas drafting Renaldo Blackman in the 1st round at pick #20 to the Knicks, so that the Phoenix Suns couldn't take him. (As if the Phoenix Suns wanted Blackman)

Let me put things in perspective; Detroit doesn't have the money to throw at a Josh Smith, but they do have the money to throw away at a Kwame Brown. Bottom-line: Emeka Okafor, Luol Deng, Jamaal Magloire, Carl Landry . . . . who are all at least 6'9" or better, but restricted free agents. If this deal doesn't lead to something else in the works before the season starts, I am officially supporting another eastern conference team, ie. the Orlando Magic. What about picking up Bonzi Wells who is unrestricted, trading for Ron Artest, dealing for T-Mac, or something? First we fired Flip Saunders, then we lost out on Barron Davis, Elton Brand, and so on. This type of decision making will make a fair-weather fan outta me.

I'm going to defend Joe D on this move. 1 championship, 2 trips to the finals, and 6 consecutive conference championship appearances shows that the man knows what he's doing. Detroit had the same problem with the Celtics as the Lakers. No big guys to get the boards. If they want to get back to the finals next year; then you need to do something. Joe is also good at chemistry. Josh Smith is the same guy as Jason Maxiel. The other guys aren't worth the money they want for this particular team. As a die-hard, long, long, loooonnngggg suffering Hawks fan; I wish I had someone who could scout talent and build teams with chemistry like Joe. All the guys on his team are the guys that other teams didn't want. Don't be surprised if Joe gets lots of production out of Kwame. Also, don't be surprised if there are some blockbuster trades out of Detroit. Joe said he was going to shake things up and we'll see it soon.

Believe you me, Joe Dumars has been the man in the past but he has made some awful mistakes at the big man position over the years. Those mistakes didn’t show up much because our core players were still in their prime and hungry. Unfortunately for Joe, now is not the time for him to continue with those mistakes. Our starting 5 have played better than any other starting 5 in the league over the past 6 years (arguably). When we played Boston, the reason we couldn’t win is not only because of our big man issue but also because Sheed couldn’t check Garnett, Billups couldn’t do anything with Rondo (not because he wasn’t 100% either), Prince had the hardest job of all having to check Pierce, Perkins showed that we didn’t have a solid big man, and Rip against Ray is an even match up. Check the Career Stats some of the Big Man mistakes Joe has made from past to present:

Nazr Mohammed 7.1 PPG, 0.7 BPG, 2.2 Off Rebounds, 3.4 Def Rebounds

Darko Milicic 7.2 PPG, 1.32 BPG, 1.2 Off Rebounds, 2.8 Def Rebounds

Theo Ratliff 7.9 PPG, 2.63 BPG, 2.0 Off Rebounds, 4.1 Def Rebounds

Kwame Brown 7.5 PPG, 0.72 BPG, 1.9 Off Rebounds, 3.8 Def Rebounds

Again . . . . . I just hope this works out. I know Kwame Brown is not one of the focal points on the Pistons team, but I bet you that midway through the season, he is sitting on the bench chewing on his finger nails and robbing another team of millions.

Man, when you put the stats down like that, this guy really does look bad (nice research!) I really can't believe he's that bad and making that much money and with the winning tradition that the Pistons have developed here now, you'd think they'd be able to attract/pick-up some better cats than this...isn't Robert Tractor Traylor coming back in the league or something? There's your big man, a hometown hero. Seriously though, I always wonder the impact on the younger guys on the team when they look down the bench and see guys like Kwame making nice loot and more than them, when he hasn't done squat in the league. Oh well, like you said, they can look in the crowd and see another Kwame that ain't doing squat and is stealing a fat check as well, so maybe it's poetic justice.
